Our Own AI, Built for the Places We Watch

Vision Link builds its own artificial intelligence. We don't rent a general-purpose system made for shop floors or car parks. We designed, trained and keep improving our AI for one job: keeping watch over railways, rivers, culverts and roads in all weathers, day and night. It is already working on Network Rail infrastructure, and for the Environment Agency and county councils across the UK.

Trained on Real Sites, Not Stock Photos

An AI is only as good as the pictures it learns from. Ours learned from images our own cameras took on real sites over many years: flooded tracks, blocked trash screens, embankments after a storm, culverts at night, and cameras lashed by driving rain. It has seen what these sites look like on a normal day and on their worst day. That is why it can tell the difference.

Every Camera Knows Its Own Scene

Each camera has its own reference picture of its site in normal conditions. The AI learns which walls, fences, puddles and vegetation are always there, so it doesn't raise an alarm over them. It pays attention to what has changed, such as water where there was none, material on the track, or an object that wasn't there yesterday.

Understanding What It Sees

Our AI does more than spot movement. It works out what it is looking at:

  • Trains and Vehicles: it recognises passing trains and road vehicles, so normal traffic doesn't trigger alerts.

  • Water on the Line: it zooms into the area around the track to check for standing or flowing water.

  • Hazards on the Infrastructure: it looks for debris, displaced material and obstructions that matter to the people responsible for the asset.

  • Vehicle Descriptions: it records vehicle colour, so a clip can be found quickly later.

Privacy by Design

Faces and vehicle number plates are blurred automatically. We trained our own number-plate model for this. Footage is protected before anyone views it, which makes our cameras suitable for public roads, level crossings and footpaths.

Always Learning

Every day our cameras capture new scenes, seasons and weather. We feed these back into our own training library, so the AI keeps getting sharper and more accurate at the sites it protects. Because we own the whole system, from the camera hardware to the AI to the web portal, we can improve it quickly and roll improvements out to every site.
